Sean Cavanagh- Greatest Player of Modern Era? - 3 Like(s)

Replying To GGdub:  "Hes a great player no denying that..but to suggest hes the greatest of the modern era..i dont think so.. diarmud connelly on form is the best player of the modern era ."
Connolly has rarely done well against the top team on the big days, has been ordinary in the 3 finals IMO

Great final. Garland was sensational, hed swing a point in a phone box. Bannigan was also heroic on the other side. Donaghmoyne all year have played that type of game, good and the very bad but they played the big plays very well on Saturday. Aughnamullen time will come, impressive year for them.

Division 1 - 2019 - 2 Like(s)
Look guys have been tried. It's 3 years since Monaghan won an u21, not much has came through from that team to this high level of chasing Dublin's tail. I ain't going to name players on a forum based on an amateur sport. Are u really suggesting some of the more lesson expierenced players would have won the games v Galway, rossies. Last may Dessie and vinnie were saluted after Monaghan beat Tyrone. MOR has such a small hand to pick from, he's relying on the same guys to stay at this level. Of course he's got it tactically wrong at times but he wants Monaghan to survive in division 1 and make the super eights. Yes blood new players but Monaghan will go straight to division 2 and fall away. People on this forum think Monaghan have the strength in depth, they don't. A lot of the talked about guys are not going to make at this high level.

I think a draw against tyrone or donegal would be in the best interests of monaghan football. An early exit and surely an end to this disastrous reign. CB has alot to answer for.

Does GAA get fair coverage compared to soccer and rugby - 2 Like(s)
RTE is so outdated with its coverage of GAA in my opinion.

Their coverage of Rugby and soccer is much better, you have proper lengthily debates after games something THE sunday game DOSENT do. The coverage of euro 2016 was excellent, top pundits and a great highlights package.

No disrespect to any Anrtim posters on here but Corrigan Park was the worst Intercounty ground I have ever seen last night. How does it even meet the GAA's criteria. Surely there is more decent grounds in Antrim then this? Ballycastle no?

Monaghan missed there big chance last August. Miles are on the clock, an average but hungrier Cavan team deserved it. As I said before, Monaghan don't have the caliber of players that people think to compete at the top top level. Would donegal or Tyrone have lost this evening? Doubtful. Good luck to Cavan. 5 years since Monaghan played in an ulster final. O Rourke brought great success but not consistent enough. Tyrone or donegal will win ulster at a canter.

Certainly will be interesting to see what comes about from this result but the wrong man is in the Monaghan hot seat. Alot of yea men in the county board so doubt there will be change. Bantys turgid run at intercounty goes on Remember wexford in a rainy clones in 06, enniskillen in 08, Celtic park in 09, the two hidings in 2010 which brought his end. He even embarrassed himself in meath, fistpumping and goading a win over Monaghan ironically in the league before losing limply to an average laois team. He had big plans in wexford, walked at the first hurdle after carlow outsmarted him. Threw his hat into the cavan job as well. Dont get me wrong, helped revive Monaghan but tactically when its came to game management its been poor and very lame. I do believe there was enough experience on the field to beat cavan on Saturday but banty made some poor calls as well as highlighted on here. A bit of both I guess but Monaghan are going no where under him. Dont be fooled. Random though why did began not kick the last free in normal time ?

USFC - Fermanagh V Monaghan - 2 Like(s)

Replying To Shelbourne:  "When's the last time you posted anything positive about Monaghan....are you another Cavan man !"
The facts speak for themselves. All year this forum has been taken up by posters stating how of good of a panel Monaghan has and the talent coming through and the way the team is more attacking and direct. It counted for nothing two weeks ago. You can paint that Fermanagh result anyway you want but that was an embarrassing result for the 3rd time in 3 years. The mindset of some supporters on here is strange- seem to be content with a we run in the qualifiers and see where it takes the team. The Fermanagh game was just a bad day at the office rubbish. What this year was a great opportunity to win ulster the hard way. Back up the league campaign with silver ware- emulate what Monaghan did from 79-88. The super 8"s would of taken care of themselves. I believe that Monaghan do have the talent and some serious players. But they are being let down by management. The game two weeks ago was an ideal chance to mix things up. MOR new Gallagher had a great insight into Monaghan. Guys like Malone and Walsh had to start. That type of game suited them.Mc carthy needed to be in from the off. I'd even have started Neil mc Adam. For all his flaws that game would have suited him. I'd be hoping there will be a turn in the qualifiers where the team is freshened up.

Well done to clontibret on their win. Fully deserved and merited. They have a good mixture of youth and experience with an excellent game plan that scotstown couldn't match. Tiredness caught scotstown in the end especially their county players who are on the go since early 2018 without a break plus the ballybay games. I think cross will easily account for clontibret though? Any thoughts on this game

Any draw will be potentially tricky at this stage. Bad bad season so far, I just get my head around the obsession with the league, I think it has hurt monaghan massively this past few years.

Replying To FootblockREF:  "Relegated from Div 2 with one game to go. 1 point out of 6 games. Newsflash lad, Down are terrible."
Yet they dumped us out in 2017- and fermanagh in 2018-dont count your chickens before they hatch. Championship is championship. If dublin dont relegate monaghan next week, I couldn't stomach another killarney 2010 or Galway 2021. Banty taking the plaudits, papering over cracks. This team needs a big rejig like armagh, like kildare have done. Division 2 won't be the worse place in the world to start that, but a new man at the helm is needed and more players needed to be blooded, I'm amazed more of last years u19 team aren't being used. Colin Walsh won an all star in defence, why not try him there? Can anyone please explain why this isn't happening? It's still not out of reach that thus team could put together a run in the championship - but a mass is exodus of players you would think is coming next winter. Monaghan football at senior level is entering a rebuild stage.

Replying To seanie08:  "I'd have mixed feelings about this appointment. Monaghan need to rebuild for the long term and a big name coming in is short termism in the extreme. There are clearly issues going on in the background here whether its the players or the county board etc I don't know that are the reason for the lack of interest in what should be an attractive number div 1 football some good underage talent coming through facilities clearly decent etc. I agree it's better there is a break from an Ulster appointment however sherlock is a big gamble. He may been a coach under Jim Gavin but that doesn't make him Jim Gavin and I think his only managerial number was the dublin minors which didn't go great. Feels like the county board a little starstruck here."
Very good post. I would have liked an inside man to rebuild monaghan quietly, over the next few years. What will we get from Jayo? Two years max. Have said before, sqaud needs to be freshened up hugely. Did the players push banty? What is going on? Things seems a mess at the moment even the club league and structure, bottom teams who haven't won a game all year very luck to get two chances to survive in any grade. Looking at the game yesterday the final, we are so far away from having forwards that was on show like the big teams have. Interesting few years ahead.

Teams playing for moral victories with boring tactics. YAWN. The noughies was a brilliant era for the GAA championship, dont forget limerick came within a whisker of winning munster, sligo/rossies won connacht while leinster and ulster had some great games.

Monaghan V Donegal - 1 Like(s)
First and foremost congrats to Donegal 6 ulster finals in a row, that is some going. Some of the stuff they played last night was 2012 form. Sheer pace and movement and offloading was super, they over ran monaghan from their kickouts cleaned monaghan for breaks and had more method to their game. Games are won on small margins i.e mc brearty shot in clones last year. Mc Brearty outplayed walsh again, kieran hughes big let down for monaghan and beggan cant hit frees under pressure. Donegal will win Ulster IMO, for monaghan its a long road back and do or die battle with mayo down the line Im guessing.
