Wicklow GAA are set to launch an investigation into a melee which marred an U15 football match that took place at the county’s Centre of Excellence yesterday.

The underage final between Carnew and Kilcoole in Ballinakill erupted into a brawl involving both players and adult club members.

The violent scenes occured towards the end of the game after a Carnew player was sent off and was involved in an altercation while making his way off the pitch.

The game itself eventually resumed with Kilcoole recording a 3-8 to 0-9 victory.

“Wicklow GAA are aware of reports of totally unacceptable behaviour from a number of people at a game today,” an official statement from the Wicklow county board read.

“Wicklow GAA strongly condemns all such behaviour, the CCC will be investigating the incident fully and strong disciplinary action taken.”
