Firstly we would never had won yesterday as it was very evident all we wanted to do was keep the score down. Leave our 2 best players in Murphy and McDonnell off till game nearly over. It is a pity cos Mayo were there but physically we are like kids beside them.
And yes Keelan should have got 1 or 2 blacks in first just like Diarmuid should have too in the second.
As I say we would not have won yesterday (2 inside forwards with gale force breeze - still annoyed)
however both goals illegal not for one foul but for 2.
Goal 1- Paddy Durcan(who was very good yesterday ) bounces the ball twice on his 45(approx) - 2 hops at the start of the move. DOConnor goes from the top of the D to a metre before the 13m = 19m without a hop or solo(was being fouled but the advantage rule does not exist when a foul is committed by the said fouled player in this case DOConnor, it is back to original foul)
Goal 2 - Off the ground by Loftus and O'Connor in the square and just to be pedantic, how can he right fist a ball to his right that distant with a proper underarm action
No evening out there imo but yet again we would have lost anyway but the weaker team always gets done (was it 7 yellow Sligo to 2 Mayo!)

No clubs have applied to amalgamate for the senior championship
As someone else said the co finals in October of all grades (senior etc) and hurling final is ridiculous. And the connacht comp reply is spurious as lets say Molaise win senior, it will be beer for a week or two, in fact in senior if it is anyone but Tour it will be party time for all concerned, same in inter. So better to play it in Sept get the beer out of the way and then have a week or two to get ready for connacht.

I have to say I agree in part with Maggie - thought in particular Murphy was quite selfish with the ball in hand especially with these young speedsters. As the game wore on you could sense the young lads were less inclined to run for a pass from Murphy as they knew they werent getting it.
Marren and Murphy should be guiding these lads. I don't give a toss who scores. As long as there is a good TEAM performance and/or a win that is all that matters. Ross is a towering example of this - always gives his best, and plays for the team always

It is so wrong - on so many levels - pure greed. He is done so much for clubs around the country and then does this - forget about all the volunteers who helped mould him into the player he was

I agree with moc.d , I was surprised and disgusted with what Padraig Duffy came out with yesterday. It was like back to the days of the GPA but there is a distinct difference Padraig, the cpa are all the gaa excluding the 1-3% of the gpa and the paid admins/expenses per meeting officials.
Then you have Martin Breheny spinning for him and on about clubs in co boards. Well as someone who tried to shake up issues in our county board and was removed by a text "no longer requiring your services" by same co bd exec, the cpa is representing the players and grassroots admins in my opinion.
Our club had a motion last year that went all the way to Ard Comhairle regarding insurance and then was shelved despite it being a huge cost saver for the GAA insurance scheme. Read this morning about insurance costs gone too high and clubs (like car owners in real life) taking the brunt.
There is certainly a paid administrator/expenses grabbing/gpa v the real club volunteer/club fundraiser/club player, however it is at a dangerous point with clubs not able to fund themselves in cases nevermind funding the co boards/co teams/centre for excellence
6m to the GPA and is it 6m to the players from Gov, that is working out at about 5k taken from the clubs each!

Jaysus I feel old on this one
This was tried at the end of the 80s and early nineties. I know I played in an amalgamation with Enniscrone for 2-3 yrs and with Farnans another year. I remember playing against Tubber, Pats, Nathys and some other amalgamation
It was a good experience but did we care if we won or lost, no. we trained 2 or 3 times together though I remember our Farnans amalgamation playing in the Nace O'Dowd tournament(think that was name) in Ransboro and having a great team bonding afterwards down there.
The issue was the fact the Farnans year we both reached the IFC sf and were to play each other in sf(which Farnans won with a late point) so for our last SFC game we both put out the lads who were going to be subs the following week in the IFC sf. The same issue arose the previous year as Enniscrone went onto the win the Inter I believe and I remember for one sfc that year it was basically the Castleconnor team who were knocked out the previous wk in IFC (and gave a better account at senior !)
As an_broc said above about amalgamations our club does not agree with amalgamations at all and his point is extremely valid as we are not losing the number of players on the way up compared to clubs around us.
Having said all that I do remember what it did for us was show us we had the ability to play against the senior teams but meaning something, nothing really.
Funnily enough after all that I would not be opposed to it being tried again. I just think it would be better trying to reinvigorate and get parts of the county not playing football back playing again rather than 2 teams north of Sligo town where population is not an issue, Ballisodare, Harps - the more teams, more players, more GAA members , bigger resources available for the county and county board

Replying To pointman2007: "It's a complete joke at one venue a couple of weeks back the admission was 10, I only had 8 on me but I told them at the gate I was only going to the first game as I had to take part in officiating at another game at another venue. Under no circumstances would they let me which meant I had to go and get money and come back 15 minutes later to get in, so I ended paying €10 to watch 45 minutes of unbelievably one sided football. And people are wondering why attendances are low??" Thanks to whoever brought this up.
I have brought it up with a number of the executive. Last game I was asked for €30 which included a 14yo, and a 82 yo. And it was an intermediate champ game. Eventually got in for €18 after a lot of grief.
I was umpiring at 2 other games that weekend and one of those times it was after a good row I got in for this one game to be an umpire.
As said above it was very obvious to us as we were parking cars for 2 different games that most of the crowd came in at around half time when they saw the 10eur sign.
5 is all should be charged for these games, 10 for a double header.
