Former Waterford selector Dan Shanahan celebrates with Noel Connors

Former Waterford star Dan Shanahan says he’s confident of his brother Maurice and ex-captain Noel Connors earning a recall from Liam Cahill this season.

Both players were omitted from Cahill’s squad for the Allianz Hurling League and Deise legend Shanahan hopes that the Tipperary man will be "true to his word" in calling up players that impress during the club championships in April.

"I know for a fact that Maurice has been dealing with it brilliantly, he got married a couple of weeks ago and he's training mad hard with Lismore. He's been outstanding for the club since the start of the year," Shanahan told the Irish Independent.

"He found it tough at the start when he was omitted because he was so close to a lot of the players, they played together for 10 years and to have two lads omitted and 40 lads get trials doesn't add up.

"I can guarantee there aren't 40 other lads that are better than Noel Connors or Maurice Shanahan in this county. But I think the boys dealt with it brilliantly, they didn't go to the media.

"They went back to their clubs and their gyms and are training hard. You never know, if Liam Cahill is true to his word and if they play well in club championship in April, they might get back in."
