Donaghmore Ashbourne's Andy Tormey

Navan O'Mahoney's 1-9  Don/Ash 2-12

On a day when we lost another great club man Joey Tormey in Donaghmore/Ashbourne, our senior team travelled to play a match in Paddy O'Brien Park against Navan O'Mahoney's in Round 10 of A Leagues. His grandson Andrew lined out at No 14. Joey who was a regular at all matches whether it was Junior, Intermediate or Senior,  was an avid supporter of all teams that wore the Green and White of the Moors. There was a minutes silence in honour of the great football man himself Joey Tormey RIP.

It didn't start off too well for the visitors when the homeside went in to a 1-2 to no score lead after 6 minutes of play with Cathal Smyth scoring the first point of the match and was a thorn in their sides all through the game.  Brian Dillon, Dougie Dillon and Jake Regan (1-0) all contributed in the first 10 minutes for Navan O'Mahoney's.  Dylan Brady got Don/Ash on the scoreboard after 8 minutes of play but they needed to up their game somewhat if they were going to have a chance of winning this game.  It was Michael Deegan and Dylan Brady again who got us back to 1-3 to 4 points with the latter point coming from good work and passing from Tormey to Carton and on to Deegan to fire over the bar. James Crumlish worked tirelessly but didn't get his deserved return from play. O'Mahoneys replied with another point from play and Deegan with a converted free. It was 1-4 to 5 points.  Kevin Cully overturned Navan at midfield and put the ball straight back into Deegan who slotted over the bar. Leo Reilly levelled the game on 23 minutes and things were looking a little brighter for the visitors.  Navan O'Mahoney's got a good point from their wing back No 7 which was followed by good work from Luke Barrett who won a ball at corner back and passed to Killian Hogan at midfield who sent the ball into Dylan Brady to put over the bar and brought us to 8 points and drew level again.  Navan finished the half  1 up with a Jake Regan free.

With 2 minutes gone in the 2nd half Luke Barrett put over a fisted point which possibly could have been a goal but in hindsight it was the right thing to do. Cathal Smyth popped up again to put them 1 up again but Shaun Byrne who worked tirelessly evened things up again 10 minutes into the 2nd half. Another fine left footed free from Jake Regan put the homeside ahead again but not for long Andrew Tormey won a ball out on the 40 which was passed to Shaun Byrne and then onto the in running Matt Crumlish who finished to the back of the net with 17 minutes gone on the clock.  Both sides were guilty of some bad wides during the game. Regan once again converted a difficult free off the left boot with only 5 minutes left on the clock and just 1 points between the teams. It was Donaghmore/Ashbourne who finished the strongest with 2 points from Michael Deegan  which came from good play out the field with Bryan Menton moving to midfield from the start of the 2nd half. Matt Crumlish put the icing on the cake when once again he popped up in the right place at the right time after a spot on pass from Tormey to Deegan who spotted the run of Crumlish. Young Thomas Cooney showed well in the 2nd half and held his own at corner back. Iarlaith O'Donnell had his work cut out with Jake Regan but got to grips with him as the match went on.  Don/Ash came away with a deserved win even if the scoreline did flatter us slightly.  Full time score 2-12 to 1-9.
