Longford GAA have released a statement refuting media reports concerning their county senior football manager's vacancy.

Reports yesterday claimed that former Mayo star and 2017 Footballer of the Year Andy Moran was poised to succeed Padraic Davis who stepped down in the aftermath of the midlanders' 22-point Leinster SFC quarter-final defeat to Meath in July.

However, the Longford county board dismissed speculation linking the Ballaghaderreen clubman to the role by stating that no interviews have taken place yet as the selection process to find Davis' successor has only started while they hope to have a manager in place by mid-November.

A Longford GAA statement reads: "Following inaccurate reports in national media today regarding appointment of manager to the Longford Senior Football team, Longford GAA management wish to correct the record by stating that no interviews for the vacant post have taken place.

"Names of possible candidates for the post that have been circulated have not been contacted by selection committee, and thus there is no clear favourite at this stage.

"The selection committee are just beginning the process of selection and it is envisaged that an announcement of new manager will take place mid-November."
