Louth GAA is set to break ground on its new 14,000-seat stadium this summer, with chairman Peter Fitzpatrick calling it “a huge development” for the Wee County.
RTE Sport reports that the Louth county board are now finalising preparations to commence the tendering process for its new €12m stadium in Dundalk.
A committee has started its fundraising for the project which, when completed, will serve as the home for all Louth GAA teams.
"We are the only ones without a county grounds in the country, but this is going to be a huge development for everyone in Louth GAA," Fitzpatrick said.
Aidan Berrill, who is chairperson for the stadium’s development, pointed out that “it will be the first new county grounds built in Ireland in decades.”
He added: "Building a new stadium is a costly undertaking, but allied with the support from local authorities, from Croke Park, from the government, and from all Louth gaels, we have initiated a fundraising drive to raise much-needed funds towards the state-of-the-art stadium".
