Stick with the soccer Eamonn. The Dublin footballers will focus on football. They are excellent ambassadors for the game.

Replying To republicofcloone:  "That Cora Staunton is hard listened to. Does she think everyone knows Mayo players by their first names?"
I thought Cora Staunton was very good, gave a very account where Mayo are positioned at present and of course she has been a great footballer. Maybe she could replace Colum O' Rourke who was ridiculous on Saturday night with his outburst on RTE, regarding splitting Dublin, rather than discussing the game which is what you would expect in post match analysis.

A great success for TG4 with 642,000 tuning into the channels live match coverage of Kerry V Dublin. It was TG4 most watched programme ever to date , which was brilliant for TG4 and the GAA. Comhghairdeachas don meitheal ar an gclár.

Royal Dunne should be aware that the 2016 census stated that 1.7 million people are able to speak the Irish language. The number of speakers have increased dramatically in the last 70 years. The Irish language is taught in many foreign countries, for example in 12 Universities across Canada. In Ireland there is the growth of the Gaelscoileanna and the great demand for places in these schools. TG4 has done great work to foster the Irish language and to bring it into our living rooms each day. There is also a huge demand to learn the Irish language via the internet. If Royal Dunne has a problem with the Irish Language, he should tune into the english language stations and agitate with those stations that the matches he wants to see are transmitted. His comments in regard to taxes and license fees are pathetic. Tír gan teanga is tír gan anam.

U21 All Ireland Football Final - Dublin v Galway - 5 Like(s)
I thought Dublin were very impressive yesterday. They dominated for most of the game and should have been more than one point ahead at half time. I was very impressed with their speed and energy levels. I think that Dublin were more than six points a better team than Galway. Dublins win yesterday was a team effort and not dependent on a marquee player and that was evidenced by the wide range of scorers. Darren Gavin had a great game, perhaps a future player of the calibre of Brian Fenton. I thought Colm Basquel ran him close for man of the match but Colm Basquel did go for a score in the first half when he should have passed to a colleague who was clear to score a goal. In contrast Darren Gavin had an opportunity to score an easy point at the end of the game but instead unselfishly gave a brilliant foot pass to Darren Byrne who in turn was fouled resulting in a penalty. For those who have been forecasting Dubins demise, they may now have to review their thoughts.

The GAA And "Northern Ireland" - 4 Like(s)

Replying To DL_Man:  "Regarding the use of names other than "Northern Ireland", take a look at this from an Irish Times article this year: In the machinations that led to the establishment of Northern Ireland, superbly described by O'Leary, Edward Carson used the term "six plantation counties" or simply "six counties". How is it then that these terms provoke howls of outrage from unionists and much of Ireland's commentariat when used today? "The Six Counties" is a perfectly legitimate term for Northern Ireland and it was used by unionist supremacists themselves. In January 1920, the fiercely unionist Walter Long visited the North of Ireland ... he added the proviso: "the people in the inner circle hold the view that the new province should consist of the six counties ... (to prevent) the supremacy of the Unionists from being seriously threatened". Source: https://www.irishtimes.com/culture/books/defining-the-sub-polity-that-is-northern-ireland-1.4517000 "The North" and "The Six Counties" are just names, and ones befitting of a state born out of gerrymandering and partition. Getting offended by these terms is ridiculous."
You are absolutely correct. The six counties are in the North East of Ireland. Part of your county, Donegal, is further North than any of the six counties, so to call the six counties Northern Ireland is ignoring Donegals geographical location. Likewise calling the six counties Ulster is incorrect as counties Donegal, Monaghan and Cavan are also in Ulster.

GAA Should Campaign For A United Ireland. - 4 Like(s)
EU has been great for Ireland, most Irish people recognise that, there will always be people that whinge. It is fantastic to have access to a market of 600 million people. Our economy is strong because of Europe and the U.S. We have come a long way since U.K. domination of this country.

TG4 is very good on sport, its coverage on Gaelic Games is really good. It is not just sport, it is a lovely TV channel to watch. It has some very good documentaries, a very good folklore programme, also good on current affairs. I very much like the Nuacht on TG4 as it reports on local news that RTE may not cover. It is a brilliant forum for the Irish Language.

Should Cavan V Dublin Be In Navan? - 3 Like(s)
The All -Ireland football semi-Final should be played in the best grounds, having the best surface and best drainage, all the more as it will be played during the winter season. That pitch is Croke Park. The size of the pitch is also conducive to playing good open football.

Replying To ForeverBlue2:  "Attendance figures for all league of Ireland clubs are on the rise over the last 3/4 years… Attendance figures for almost every county for football matches have dropped dramatically.. so there's your comparison… County football is now woeful to watch hence the huge drop in attendance figures.. People especially the younger generation are turning their backs on the GAA…."
Some of the GAA match attendances this year are Kerry V Dublin 82,300, Kerry V Derry 43,192, Dublin V Monaghan 82,000, Galway V Mayo 23,897, Limerick v Kilkenny 82,300, Limerick V Clare 43,756, Limerick V Galway 59738. You might come up with some League of Ireland match attendances now. Happy days anyway with the GAA they have just received €32,000,00 generously from JP.

Replying To jimbodub:  "Disgusting show of sponsorship marketing by the Tipp team laying a wreath Look how orchestrated it was with music and cameras setup for them"
It could not be more appropriate, the Tipperary team lead by their captain laying a wreath in memory of their fallen footballer Michael Hogan and others. Dublin did likewise two weeks ago. Your post is only a reflection of yourself.

Brian Mullins RIP - 3 Like(s)
Brian Mullins was a towering midfielder and an iconic player. He and the late Anton O'Toole were the only Dublin players to win four senior All-Ireland medals in that era. The Dublin players of the 1970s left a legacy and Brian Mullins was an inspirational part of it. Go dtuga Dia solas na bhFlaitheas dá anam uasal.

Keegan fouls Connolly off the ball, Keegan will have to learn that he will have to play fairly if they are going to beat Dublin. Connolly also has to learn not to react to provocation and the GAA officals needs to protect talented players that are targeted.

All-Ireland Club Finals On St. Patrick's Day - 3 Like(s)
It would make no sense having the replay in Croke Park. Thurles would be suitable or perhaps the Gaelic Grounds as Cuala may like to return the favour of Na Piarsaig having played in Croke Park and seen that Cuala had an opportunity of a training session in Croke Park last Sunday. Also, it was a little bit much of Cuala to leave the Limerick boys waiting two or three minutes in the freezing cold on two occassions before resumption of play yesterday. Mischievous and unsporting, there should be sanction for this behaviour.

Is Dublin's Success False, Tarnished And Bought? - 3 Like(s)
For those of you that appreciate the good football that is played by Dublin, should read the article by Roy Curtis in the Independent with the heading " Dublin should not concern with the joyless, dismal, ill-informed criticism aimed at them".

Is Dublin's Success False, Tarnished And Bought? - 3 Like(s)

Replying To leitrim4sam:  "If Leitrim was the common denominator then Dublin would be entering 50 different teams in to the championship such is the gulf in population alone never mind money, with their approx 1.5 million population to our approx 30,000."
The point that was been made is that many counties would have to be split, if population is a factor. Antrim has the second largest population in Ireland, would you split that county into numerous parts also. Cork have more registered players than Dublin, would you split that into more parts than you would split Dublin. People begrudge Dublins success despite the excellent football they play. It would be great if other counties could play the quality football that Dublin play. Good luck to Leitrim in their quest for Sam.
