An Offaly GAA club has been named as a finalist in the National Lottery Good Causes Awards which honour the inspirational work and achievements of projects, clubs and individuals all over Ireland.

Daingean GAA is shortlisted in the Community category in the Good Causes Awards final which will take place at the Mansion House on Saturday, 29 May.

Members of the Daingean club has been helping out in the community since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, assisting those in need with food deliveries, meals on wheels and prescription collection.

They also launched a campaign called the Turf-a-Thon last May, calling on vulnerable community members to let them know if they needed their turf turned/footed/heaped or drawn but were unable due to coronavirus restrictions.

There are 36 finalists across the categories of Health & Wellness, Sport, Arts & Culture, Heritage, Community and Youth (as well as a special category for Irish Language Projects).

Each of the seven category winners will receive €10,000 with the overall Good Cause of the Year winning an additional €25,000. 

Nearly 30 cent of every €1 spent on all National Lottery games goes back to Good Causes.
