Davy Nelson to take charge of Meath ladies

Davy Nelson is set to be named as the new Meath ladies football manager in succession to Eamonn Murray.

The Navan O'Mahony's clubman's name will go before a Meath LGFA committee meeting next week for ratification. Former Carlow hurler Mark Brennan, who served as strength and conditioning coach under Murray, will act as coach with ex-Monaghan football star Bernie Murray also set to be involved.

Nelson is a highly-respected coach who led his home club to four Meath SFC successes. He also won a Monaghan SFC title with Latton O'Rahillys and is a former Meath junior and U21 manager.

The incoming ladies boss has big boots to fill after Eamonn Murray called time on his hugely successful stint as Meath ladies manager in August. During his six years in charge, the Boardsmill clubman brought the Royals from the intermediate ranks to win back-to-back All-Ireland senior championships in 2021 and '22. He also won an All-Ireland intermediate title in 2020 and Division 1, 2 and 3 League titles.
