A GAA club in Derry has been numbed by the death of one of its juvenile players following a car crash.

Bellaghy Wolfe Tones GAC has paid tribute to six-year-old Ethan McCourt who passed away on Saturday following the accident that happened near Magherafelt last Monday. The young boy’s father Declan is still in hospital after he was also involved in the crash.

Two people that were in the other vehicle were also hospitalised after the incident.

Ethan’s funeral Mass will take place tomorrow morning at the Church of St. Mary’s in Bellaghy.

A tweet from the Bellaghy Wolfe Tones GAC read: “We are devastated to share the news that our underage player Ethan McCourt has sadly passed to his eternal rest following an accident earlier this week.”

A following post added: “We also keep his father Declan in our thoughts as he receives continued treatment in hospital.”
