Draped in the tricolour, Blaithin Mackin holds the AFLW trophy

Irish duo Sinead Goldrick and Blaithin Mackin tasted AFLW glory earlier today (Sunday) when they helped Melbourne Demons to victory over Brisbane Lions towards its first Premiership title.

The 19-15 win against the Lions in the AFLW Grand final at Brighton Homes Arena, Springfield saw the Demons clinch their maiden crown and also marked a bit of history for Goldrick.

The Dublin star became the first player to win an All-Ireland SFC medal and an AFLW Premiership, while Armagh ace Mackin enjoyed sweet success with Melbourne in what was her debut season with the team.

However, there was disappointment for Tipperary’s Orla O’Dywer as she ended up on the losing side with Brisbane.
