Joe Canning has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling.

The five-time All-Star made his decision public this morning and it comes just days after he carved a niche for himself in the history books when overtaking Henry Shefflin to become the all-time hurling championship top scorer.

The 32-year-old made his debut in 2008 and the highlight of his career was the Liam MacCarthy Cup success of 2017.
