Fears that Galway star Joe Canning suffered a serious neck injury in today's All-Ireland SHC semi-final have been allayed.

The Portumna clubman had to be stretchered off the Croke Park pitch during the second half against Limerick having taken a blow in an accidental collision with teammate Joseph Cooney.

There were serious concerns surrounding the 32-year-old but a report on RTÉ has confirmed that the injury was no more than concussion and that he "hasn't done any damage" to his neck.

Canning scored 0-12, including four sumptuous sideline cuts, and his presence in attack proved a loss for the Tribesmen in the closing stages of the 0-27 to 0-24 defeat especially after losing fellow forward Cathal Mannion to injury early on.
