Derry champions Newbridge will play Madden in the Ulster club senior football championship quarter-finals after coming through this evening’s preliminary round against Antrim counterparts Dunloy.

It finished 1-14 to 0-11 in Owenbeg, where Callum McGrogan struck the game’s only goal in the 42nd minute to storm Newbridge in front and Sean O’Learys would kick on for a six-point victory to set-up their provincial last eight showdown with the Armagh champions.

Oisin Doherty’s free had put the hosts into a 0-5 to 0-3 lead after 20 minutes, but Dunloy got two-pointers from Keelan Molloy and Deaglan Smith to take on a 0-8 to 0-6 advantage at half-time.

Molloy stretched the lead to three as many minutes into the resumption but another Doherty free would be backed up by McGrogan palming the ball into the Dunloy net to surge the back-to-back Oak Leaf County champions ahead.

Seaan Elliott responded with a Dunloy point in the 50th, however they’d fail to score again after that as the scores of Mark Doherty, Conleth McGrogan and Oisin Doherty put a seal on the win for Gavin Devlin’s men.
