Henry Shefflin sent his best wishes to Brian Cody today after the latter brought his 24-year reign as Kilkenny senior hurling manager to an end today.
After much speculation, Cody officially stepped down this afternoon with Kilkenny GAA releasing a statement to confirm the news.
The James Stephens man guided his native county to 11 All-Ireland SHC titles during a truly remarkable tenure.
Shefflin earned 10 Celtic Crosses under Cody as a player and has since come up against hurling’s greatest ever bainisteoir after taking on the role of Galway manager this past season.
The Tribesmen defeated Cody’s Cats with a late point in the teams’ thrilling Leinster SHC encounter back in May, before the sides met again just over a month later in the Leinster final.
Kilkenny emerged victorious on a 0-22 to 0-17 at Croke Park to secure an 18th provincial crown for Cody, which now goes down as his last in the Black and Amber after having lost out to Limerick in last Sunday’s All-Ireland final.
Past players such as JJ Delaney, Jackie Tyrrell and Brian Hogan took to Twitter earlier today to pay tribute to their former manager Cody and Shefflin was another to cite his departure as the “end of an era” with his tweet below.
TweetEnd of an Era, Memories which will be treasured forever. Best wishes Brian. https://t.co/FeLxuWBVcE
