Davy Fitz returns as Waterford hurling manager

Davy Fitzgerald has been ratified as Waterford senior hurling manager, making a return to the post he vacated in 2011.

Fitzgerald has been handed a two-year term in the Deise County with an option for a third year, and is set to name his backroom team at a later date.

The Clare legend succeeds Liam Cahill in the role after the latter departed last month and has since taken the reins of his native Tipperary.

Fitzgerald had been involved with Cork’s senior camogie management this past season and walked away from the set-up after the Rebels All-Ireland final defeat to Kilkenny last Sunday.

His previous stint with Waterford was between 2008 and 2011 and saw him leading them to a first All-Ireland final appearance in 45 years where they suffered a heavy defeat to Kilkenny.

He since went on to manage his native Clare to Liam McCarthy Cup success in 2013 and guided Wexford to a first Leinster title in 15 years in 2019.
