Kildare SFC: Athy dethrone Sarsfields to set up repeat of 2018 final

Sarsfields 0-10

A second-half goal from Niall Kelly helped Athy dethrone holders Sarsfields as Kildare SFC champions at St Conleth's Park yesterday.

The Reds can now look forward to a county SFC final date with Moorefield, a repeat pairing of the 2018 decider which the 'Moores' won by three points.

Only a point separated the sides at half-time (0-6 to 0-5) after Barry Coffey and Darragh Ryan raised white flags to reduce the deficit to the minimum for Sarsfields.

But the holders had no answer to the pace and power of Athy who were 1-8 to 0-6 up when Kelly struck the game's only goal on 40 minutes and fully deserved the win.
