The 2024 Sigerson Cup kicked off last night with wins for Queen's University, TU Dublin and Maynooth University.
A late Luke Donnelly free handed Queen's a dramatic 1-10 to 2-6 victory over DCU Dóchas Éireann at The Dub after Donnelly and Mathew Costello had traded goals in an exciting finale. DCU had led by 1-2 to 0-2 at half-time thanks to a Conor Corbett major.
There was an upset in Dangan where TU Dublin edged out Higher Education Division One League champions University of Galway 2-8 to 1-10.
The hosts looked to have done enough when Cillian Ó Curraoin kicked two late points to give them a 1-10 to 1-8 lead, but there was still time for TU Dublin to snatch victory courtesy of a last-gasp Cian Hanley goal.
In last night's other first round tie, Maynooth University came away from MTU Cork with an impressive 4-11 to 2-9 win.
First half goals from Eoghan Frayne, Ruairí Kinsella, and Kevin O'Sullivan propelled Maynooth into a 3-6 to 0-3 half-time lead before Keith O'Neill added a fourth after the restart, with Tommy Walsh and Mark Casey netting at the other end for the home side.
