Shane Dowling has made a sensational return to the Limerick senior hurling panel after a four-and-a-half year absence.

Nickie Quaid's recent ACL injury has prompted Dowling's return. The Sunday Game panellist kept goal for Na Piarsaigh in this year's Limerick SHC and will provide competition to Jason Gillane and Conor Hanley for the number one jersey in 2025.

Still only 31, Dowling was forced to retire through injury in 2020 after playing a crucial role in Limerick's first Liam MacCarthy Cup triumph in 45 years two years earlier - he scored a goal in the final win over Galway. The poacher-turned-goalkeeper also won an All-Star in 2014 and an All-Ireland club SHC title with Na Piarsaigh in 2016.

He scored 21-292 in just 59 league and championship games for his county to surpass the record previously held by Gary Kirby.

Dowling has been included in a 46-man 2025 'pre-season panel' which was announced by Limerick manager John Kiely last night.
