Armagh's Jamie Clarke has joined Northern Ireland Premiership outfit Newry City AFC.

The talented 33-year-old will link up with his fellow Crossmaglen Rangers clubman James Teelan at the County Down club as they embark on their return to the top-flight with an opening round clash against Carrick Rangers FC today.

In a promising inter-county career interrupted by stints in Melbourne and New York, Clarke last featured for Armagh in 2020 when he started at corner-forward in the Orchard County's Ulster semi-final defeat to Donegal.

He has played soccer for Cartwheel United in the local Carnbane (Newry & Mourne) Football League, and also lined out with Cosmopolitan League Division 1 side New York Shamrocks.

“Jamie is obviously well known for his exploits on the Gaelic pitch but he has shown in the short time he has been with us that he can add something to our attacking line up,” Newry City AFC manager Darren Mullen welcomed the signing of the Crossmaglen star.

“He’s a smart skillful player and is keen to show what he can do at this level of football.

“It will obviously take him a while to bed in but I’m looking forward to seeing him playing in a Newry shirt.”
