Kilkenny camogie manager Brian Dowling says he asked his players to up the intensity and work rate in the second-half of yesterday’s National League Division 1 final win at Croke Park.

The Cats came from three points down at half-time to clinch the title on a 1-18 to 1-15 score-line and, speaking to RTE Sport after the game, Dowling said he was delighted with the effort from his group.

"I didn't say much," he said. "We weren’t really playing that well in the first half but we said the game was there for us – three points down but there was a strong wind as well.

"Galway are a super team and you’re not going to get a great start against too many teams like that.

"But I was happy enough we were in the game at half-time. I was delighted with the response after half-time, we probably haven’t kicked on like that in any game this year. It’s a great sign.

"I just asked the girls to up the intensity, the workrate. Aoife Doyle got a brilliant goal and that really droves us on for the second half. We’re delighted with tonight but we have to go and meet Galway again in a few weeks in a very tough (championship) group.

"We were very lucky to be here. Limerick probably should have beat us, Tipp should have beat us, but when you end up in the final you want to win.

"A great occasion in Croke Park and your family here, which was brilliant as well."
