Croke Park in all its glory.

A place in the 2020 All-Ireland SFC final was up for grabs at Croke Park this evening as Dublin and Cavan collided in the first of this year's semi-finals.

Dessie Farrell's all-conquering Dubs had eased to a tenth consecutive Leinster crown with facile victories over Westmeath, Laois and Meath, while Mickey Graham's never-say-die Cavan charges defied the odds to land a first Ulster title in 23 years via battling victories over Monaghan, Antrim, Down and Donegal,

Dublin are of course bidding for a sixth All-Ireland title in a row, but the Breffni boys weren't travelling to GAA HQ simply to make up the numbers. Something would have to give as the irresistible force met the immovable object in this historic encounter, which was played behind closed doors and under lights in the depths of winter, at the tail-end of a year we are never going to forget!
