Munster rivals Limerick and Cork renewed acquaintances in the 2021 All-Ireland SHC final at Croke Park.

John Kiely's terrific Treaty County prevailed by eight points when these teams clashed in a Munster semi-final at Thurles seven weeks ago, but the Rebels had gathered serious momentum since then, racking up stunning victories over Clare, Dublin and Kilkenny to battle through to their first All-Ireland senior hurling final in eight years.

If Kieran Kingston's charges were to take the Liam MacCarthy Cup back to Leeside for the first time since 2005, then they were going to have to dethrone a formidable-looking Limerick side, who were themselves bidding to put All-Ireland titles back to back for the first time. The holders were also eyeing up a third title in four seasons.

Since their July 3rd defeat of today's opponents, the defending champions had got the better of Tipperary and Waterford at the Munster final and All-Ireland semi-final stages respectively. A defining and record-breaking duel took place in front of 40,000 spectators as history was written on the GAA's iconic field of dreams.
