December 31, 2021

Waterford and Clare is off.

Waterford have been forced to postpone Sunday's McGrath Cup opener against Clare as they are unable to field a team following "a number of Covid cases and close contacts as well as a number of injuries."

The Walsh Park clash was set to be the first inter-county fixture of 2022 and Ephie Fitzgerald's first outing as Waterford manager.

"Sunday’s McGrath Cup Football Group A match between Waterford and Clare has been postponed," Munster GAA confirmed.

"Waterford are unable to field a team due to a number of Covid cases and close contacts as well as a number of injuries."

Next Monday's historic Connacht FBD FL quarter-final clash between Leitrim and Sligo at the NUI Galway Connacht Air Dome - the first inter-county GAA match to take place under a roof - will now get the new season underway.
