Popular RTE star Marty Morrissey is in mourning following the untimely passing of his mother yesterday.

Peggy Morrissey was tragically killed in a road accident at Annagh, Miltown Malbay, Co Clare in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Speaking on RTE Radio One this morning, Marty’s colleague, Darren Frehill, said his mother was “extremely popular” in her local community.

He described the news as “desperately sad” and a “devastating loss” and added that Marty “meant the world” to his mother.

Gardai at Kilrush Garda Station have asked for anyone with any information about the accident to contact them.

Earlier this evening it was confirmed that the lady who tragically lost her life in last night’s road accident near Miltown Malbay was Peggy Morrissey, mum of the much loved Marty Morrissey.
