Great news the good day's are going to come back. Congress have passed the motion for the high fielder it will put an end to mob rule after fielding a catch beyond the 45m from a kick out. I look forward to this rule being implemented, I applaud this decision.

This rule change is a waste of time..As the short kick out from the keepers is the major problem with our game... A much better option was to insure all goal kicks passed the 45m line.. The GAA seem to be for ever making rule changes but never come close to getting it right... I wonder over the years did they ever consider leaving the rules alone and put more emphasis on referees implementing them properly...??

Am I reading the link wrong my interpretation is that the ball must reach or be very close to the 45 meter line is it not saying this. ???

the ball must go past the 45 for the mark to be in play, and without bringing in the rule that kickouts have to go past the 45 it will probably mean very little, other than teams will do more to stop the catch being made.

would also say that I really don't get this non stop looking to change the rules of the game, why are so many trying to turn our great game into the International rules series game.

I think the catching of the ball in midfield from a kick out puts away with the pack rule where the catcher has no chance to get away from them. I feel of all the rules this one in particular will be a huge asset and in fairness make the game more enjoyable.

Problem is it will make no odds yo many short kick outs unless one team presses up on the other and forces a long kick out

I might be in the minority but I think the new high ball rule is a great call. The art of fielding high balls are all but gone and if you do manage to, what are your prospects? Getting hit hard as you land? Losing possession? Being surrounded by 3/4 opponents? No advantage is being gained by fielding.

It's from the kick out and once you make a mark the pack attack incentive will be gone. I think it's a great call maybe we will see the high catcher's in action I hope.

It's another stupid rule that has been introduced without any real though put into it.... Would it not make more sense to have a rule that when a 3rd player comes in to tackle a player then the player in possession will get the advantage..which would also make the refs job easier and open up the game more... On another note all scored frees should be taken from the ground.. These 2 rules would be easy to implement and in my view improve our game and it's skills... Unlike 'marks' and the 'Black card' which no two referees seem to implement the same way.... What do others think...?

a rule change that highlights the lost art of fielding a ball???

personally believe that we will see 6"6 Goalkeepers/ Past greats who cant walk/ or just the classic lad who could just catch a ball growing up, get their place in the team for this reason only.

All these lads will do is slow down the game once again....

I think the rule is made in good faith with good intentions but I believe that it is getting increasingly difficult to catch a high ball in midfield (or anywhere) as you are either held, blocked, impeded etc in your attempt to reach the ball . I think this blocking will only increase now in light of the fact that a free will result. I am in agreement with quite a lot of people on here who think there are enough rules in the game as it is . The problem is that the refs are not implementing them especially in relation to fouling of a player in possesion and more than one person mauling, grappling, surrounding a player .
