Fingal claimed the Electric Ireland All Ireland Minor Hurling Championship 'C' title with a convincing win over Cavan at Ashbourne. The Dublin side were far supieror to their Ulster counterparts and on this performance would have more than held their own in the higher grades. Despite the result this was a major boost for Cavan hurling and its only a matter of time before the Breffni men start producing senior hurling teams again.

Fingal started at a blistering pace. After five minutes the Dublin boys had 1-1 registered. Phil Lennon got the opening point and Colm Byrne followed this up with the games first goal. Stephen Harten put Cavan on the scoresheet but a succession of points from Andrew Lonergan, Ciaran Sullivan, Karl Rogers, Lennon, Kevin McLoughney, Niall O'Callaghan and Conor Dwyer put Fingal into a very commanding position. Fingal led at the break 1-12 to 0-4.

Cavan got a great start to the second half. John Carney won the throw in and from his delivery Bart Nannery was on hand to finish the ball to the Fingal net. The Dublin outfit didn't panic and the reply was instant. A fine point from half back Cian Ryan was quickly followed by a Phil Lennon goal. Fingal led 2-14 to 1-4 after ten minutes. Cavan refused to throw in the towel and they enjoyed their best period in the game. A brace of points from Stephen Harten and one from Aiden McFarlane closed the gap. Fingal upped the pace once more and some brilliant points especially from Niall O'Callaghan put the game out of reach of Cavan. With time almost up Kevin McLoughney got Fingal's third goal while Finnan Reilly got in for Cavan's second.
