Division 2 Reserve Semi Final

Cornafean 3-14   Drumlane  1-16

The Cornafean Reserve Reds after a great team effort on Friday night last against Drumlane duly qualified for the 2021 Division 2 Championship Final.  Played on the 3G the game was played at a fast and furious pace with the Reds dominating for long periods of the game.  In the dying moments of the game Drumlane were threatening to snatch victory a brilliant opportunistic Andrew Smith goal propelled Cornafean into the final and it was nothing more than the teams efforts deserved.  From the get go Cornafean midfield of C. Sheridan and C. Geoghegan were dominant and forwards Aodhgan Smith, J. McGahern and D. Egan were very prominent asking many questions of the Drumlane defence.  The Reds led by 2-5 to 0-4 at the first water break with goals from Conor Sheridan and Andrew Smith, Drumlane improved in the 2nd quarter but David Egan and Conor Sheridan kept the scoreboard ticking over to have Cornafean ahead at the break on a scoreline of 2-8 to 0-8.  The 3rd quarter of the game belonged to Drumlane reeling off 5 points with a D. Egan point the Reds only score to leave the match finely balanced at 2-9 to 0-13 and fifteen minutes to play. Cornafean's work ethic continued with points from Andrew and Aodhegan Smith and James McGahern but the Drumlane lads hit a purple patch as the clock ticked down scoring a goal and two points to level matters.  It was a tense last few minutes but the Reds held their nerve and deservedly claimed the win.  David Egan pointed a great free and when a Peter Doyle 45 came of the upright Andrew Smith reacted quickly to bury the ball in the net and send the Reds into the Division 2 Final.  A great achievement from the team and their management.  Well done to all and best of luck to the team in the final.

U20 Division 4 Championship Final

Cornafean vs Drumgoon

Cornafean 1-14 Drumgoon 0-14

Well done to U20 Cornafean lads on their well merited win over Drumgoon in the Division 4 final played on the 3G Breffni on Sunday afternoon last.  For three quarters of the game the Reds were comfortably the better team dominating in  many sectors and executing excellent score.  The men from east Cavan made a spirited come back in the final quarter but Cornafean had the hard work done to record a three point victory.  The Reds were in positive mode from the get go aided by the wind and their 8 pt half time lead was no more that they deserved with J. Traynor, D. Kilkenny, P. Doyle and C. McSeain all having their shooting boots on.  There was no let up from the Reds in the second half with an early J. Traynor point.  On the 38th minute a high ball into the square from the flying Captain Dean Kilkenny was expertly finished to the net by Emmet Martin  putting the Reds in a very strong position prior to the 2nd water break.  J. Traynor and Cullain McSeain added points to leave it Cornafean 1-14 to Drumgoon 0-5.  With a quarter of the match remaining unbelievably Cornafean did not score for the remainder of the game.  Drumgoon regained a second wind and some belief.  Aided by a strong wind they hemmed the Reds in their own half scoring nine unanswered points but fortunately the sounding of the long whistle eased Cornafean players and supporters nerves.  Well done to the panel of players and management on their well deserved win.  Captain Dean Kilkenny accepted the cup on behalf of the Reds and thanked their management team of Liam Young, Brian Doyle and Rory McSeain.
