Reserve League
Well done to the lads who defeated Killinkere in the sweltering heat on Sunday last in Jim Smith Memorial Park emerging 3-13 to 1-12 winners in the opening round of the ACFL Reserve Division 2 League. Belturbet were always in control of this game and their first score came from the trusty boot of Ronan Top Bin Vesey who carried his goalscoring prowess in training into match play when he hammered in a banger of a goal early in the first half. Jack and Sean Og were full of running power in the middle of the field with Killian always driving forward from centre back and Killinkere could not cope with the trio's running speed, finishing and high fielding. Brian Wallace bagged the Rory's second goal with a well taken finish and Sean Og went on a run from the middle of the field burning past several men before hammering in our third goal. the point taking was also excellent with Sean Og, Colum, Jack, Brian and Killian all raising white flags. Belturbet held a commanding 3-8 to 0-5 half time lead. Killinkere able to spring several players off the bench attacked more in the second half but Belturbet were able to keep them at arms length with a point here and there during the second half maintaining a comfortable cushion. Killinkere got a late consolation goal with time almost up but it wasnt enough to stop the Rorys picking up a seven point win. Well done to all 14 lads who worked tirelessly in the draining heat and played some good football in racking up a high scoreline. Belturbet Lineout: James McCaffrey, Alan Brown, Sean Grogan(C), Andrew Dunne, Killian Murray, Mark O'Reilly, Sean Og Lawlor, Jack O'Callaghan, Evan O'Reilly, Brian Wallace, Colum Dennehy, Ronan Vesey, Ben Murphy. Sub: Gareth Fitzpatrick.
