Kinnitty Camogie Club Notes

June 28, 2021

The Kinnitty team that took place in the Under 8 blitz in Kinnitty.

Under 14s

On Thursday evening our under 14 girls lined out for their second fixture of the league when they took on Naomh Brid having lost to St Sinchills previously.  As they took to the pitch the weather was the type that may have had ducks smiling but it wasn’t conducive for great camogie.  Then as the match got underway, even the ducks would have been reaching for their life jackets such was the rain that fell but referee, Kieran Dooley got the match underway and Kinnitty quickly settled into their stride with Aoibhe Longworth finding the net in the first minute.  This was followed by a point by Katie Standish and despite our girls pressing that completed the scoring for the first quarter.  The lead would may been greater however, if it wasn’t for Rachel Ryan in the Naomh Brid goals who brought off a smart save during the quarter and indeed she would go on to make a number of impressive saves throughout the match

The second quarter continued in a similar vein with Kinnitty continuing to press and they were rewarded handsomely with Amber Mortimer scoring a goal and two points and Aoibhe raising another green flag to leave the half time score showing 3-3 to 0-0.

With the rain still teaming down the girls huddled for some shelter and a few quick words from their coaches.  It was at this stage in their previous match that St Sinchills blitzed Kinnitty with a deluge of goals and when Naomh Brid found the Kinnitty net early in the second half, one may have cast their minds back to that situation against Sinchills.  However, any such thoughts were immediately wiped out with Kinnitty scoring 4 points without reply, the points coming from Katie Standish, Amber Mortimer adding 2 more points to her tally and Moya Guinan hitting over a 45 with some confidence.

The final quarter continued with Kinnitty in control of the match with Moya picking up a goal for herself to complete the scoring to leave the final score showing Kinnitty 3-7, Naomh Brid 1-0.  It was a result that will do the team the world of good, however they now have a bye in the next round of fixtures before then take on St Cillians in Carrig

Our under 10 girls had their second blitz of the year in Banagher on Friday evening when they played Birr, Belmont, Lusmagh and St Rynaghs.  Again, the girls played excellently in each game and as before their coaches cannot but be pleased with how they are taking what they are learning on the training pitch and applying it in their blitzes.  Well done to all the girls and thank you Birr, Belmont, Lusmagh and St Rynaghs for some excellent games and to St Rynaghs for their hospitality on Friday evening.

A final reminder that we will be holding a clothes collection to help raise funds for the club on Sunday, 4th July.  Any unwanted clothes that you had that you would like to donate, please pop them into a bag and bring them to the GAA grounds where we will gladly take them.

Congratulations

Many congratulations to Ella Boland, Moya Guinan, Caitlin O’Neill and Hannah Robinson who have been selected for the Offaly Under 14 Development Teams.  It’s always fantastic to see our girls pull on our county jersey and we wish the girls the very best of luck in their ventures with Offaly.
