Kinnitty Camogie Club Notes

June 21, 2021

The Kinnitty team that took place in the Under 8 blitz in Kinnitty.

Under 12s

On Thursday evening we played hosts to Edenderry in the Under 12 league.  It was a big occasion for our guests as it was their first ever under 12 match given their status as relative newcomers to camogie.  While Edenderry were a strong team, it was evident that our girls’ were more experienced in playing the game as they built up a sizeable lead up to half time and into the second half.  The Edenderry girls kept battling away but found it hard to get any momentum in the game.

Keeping with the spirit of the game our coaches rang the changes and substituted some of our more senior players.  This evened the teams up somewhat and stopped the flow of scoring for our team.  While it resulted in Edenderry picking off a couple of scores, our girls ran out comfortable winners which will do their confidence no harm.  Congratulations to the girls on their win.

Team:  Dearbhla O’Brien, Maisie O’Neill, Kate Harris, Aisling Farrell, Aine Kinsella, Meadbh Dooley, Leah Dooley, Eleanor O’Keeffe, Amber O’Brien, Amber Mortimer, Caoimhe O’Shea, Katie McLoughlin, Sarah Nolan

Subs:  Sara O’Donnell, Aoibhinn Dooley, Grace Higgins, Emma Robinson, Zoe Farrell, Michaela Blake, Suin Joyce, Aine Moyles, Lucy Bradley, Odette Bayliss

Intermediate League

On Thursday evening, while our Under 12 team were playing in Kinnitty our adult team travelled to Tullamore to play their second league game.  After a sterling performance against St Sinchills in their previous outing, unfortunately the girls didn’t reach the same levels against Tullamore.  Unfortunately, a few goal chances came our way but did not end up in the net.  It’s questionable if they would have had any impact on the final score which Tullamore went on to win comfortably.  Our girls now go on to face Lusmagh/Drumcullen in their final match of the league.

Team:  Eleanor Clendennen, Trish Corrigan, Niamh Scully, Rebecca Carroll, Ellen Robinson, Leanne Scully, Theresa Corrigan, Miriam O’Neill, Leanne Mahon, Aoife Bergin, Rachel O’Donoghue, Rachel Scully, Saoirse Bergin, Michelle Carroll, Beibhinn O’Grady

Subs:  Aoife Carroll, Laura O’Donoghue, Aoibheann Bergin, Niamh Nolan, Katelyn O’Meara, Mary MacCartain, Grainne Carroll, Eimear Nolan.

Under 8 Blitz

On Saturday morning the GAA grounds was a hive of activity as we hosted an under 8 blitz with 5 clubs visiting us.  As if that was not enough excitement, 2 of the visiting clubs, Belmont and Shamrocks, were making their own pieces of history as it was their first ever under 8 blitz.  Along with them we also had visitors from Birr, Naomh Brid and Shinrone.  With three games going on simultaneously there was lots of girls giving their all for the first time wearing their club jerseys and our girls, kitted out in the green and white were no different.  They gave their all and scored plenty and maybe conceded the odd goal or two but that is somewhat irrelevant at this age.  What is important is that the girls got to pull on our club jersey, experience a game against another team and the atmosphere that goes with a blitz … and of course getting their hands on the crisps and drinks handed out afterwards.  Congratulations to everyone from all the clubs that participated.  Thank you to our wonderful referees, Saoirse, Theresa, Rachel and Trish, to Maggie and Ger and everyone else that helped make the event a great success.
