Two-goal hero John McGrath was lost for words as he reflected on Tipperary’s second-half masterclass in the All-Ireland hurling final.
Tipp came from six down at the break to win by 15 and claim their 29th All-Ireland crown – a far cry from last year when they failed to get out of Munster, picking up just one draw from their four championship outings:
“Jesus, it’s hard to put it into words even now. The twelve months flew by but it’s a long way we’ve come. We were long gone this time twelve months ago, more like 15 or 16 months…
“It’s hard to put words to or describe what exactly changed. It’s not one magic thing or anything; the talent and that was always there, it’s just fine-tuning it and by God we’ve gone from strength to strength as the year’s gone on and jeez that second half was ‘oh my God’…
“We built a real squad unity, a real belief as the year went on. Everyone was out on their feet there at the end but lads were still throwing everything in the way just to get over the line.”
