Carlow football giants Éire Óg have moved quickly to replace the hugely successful Turlough O'Brien after he ended his second spell as senior manager.

Richie Mahon and Cormac Mullins have stepped up from managing underage and intermediate teams within the club to take the reins for 2025. O'Brien won five Carlow SFC titles as a player and five more as a manager, his most recent coming last year. He returned to manage his home club in 2022 after making a big impact with the county team over a six-year period.

In 2018, he led the Barrowsiders to promotion to Division 3 of the Allianz League and a famous Leinster SFC victory over neighbours Kildare.

“Éire Óg CLG want to thank Turlough O’Brien, Simon Rea, Tommy Wogan, Alan O’Brien, Robbie Moore and Cian O’Brien for their efforts and commitment to our Senior Footballers over the last three years," the Carlow town club posted on social media.

"This management team took over in January 2022 and led the team to winning a Senior County Championship in 2023.

"The club is grateful to Turlough and his team for all they have done and wish them the best going forward.”
