Glen will face Kilmacud Crokes in the All-Ireland club SFC final in two weeks’ time after holding off Moycullen with a 1-11 to 0-12 victory at Croke Park.
The Derry champions made a strong start to open up a 0-4 to 0-0 lead at headquarters but their Galway counterparts fought back to trail by just two points at the half.
The frees of Dessie Conneely (0-8) were what settled Moycullen into the contest and, despite conceding a Tiarnan Flanagan goal five minutes into the second-half, they’d be in the hunt until the very end.
Conneely’s frees had the scoreboard reading 1-9 to 0-10 with seven minutes remaining and in the closing stages of normal time it was Glen defenders Micheal Warnock and Cathal Mulholland that landed a point each to leave the final within touching distance for the Ulster champions.
Owen Gallagher rifled over a point at the other end but it still left the Galway men needing a goal that never came their way as Malachy O’Rourke’s charges punched their ticket into a first All-Ireland club senior football final.
