Cork are Munster minor football champions after springing an upset over Kerry at Pairc Ui Rinn last night.

The Rebels secured their 31st provincial minor football crown on a comprehensive 3-11 to 0-9 score-line – a reversal from the two sides' earlier meeting in the competition which saw the Kingdom winning out by 14 points.

Cork’s win over Tipp two weeks ago advanced them into this decider and they’d hit the ground running to be leading by 0-8 to 0-3 in the 25th minute when Brian Hayes hammered to Kerry’s net.

It left the visitors with a mountain to climb in the second-half and they couldn’t scale it, as they saw centre-back Darragh O’Connor dismissed on a red card early in the restart.

Points from Eddie Healy, Darragh O’Sullivan and Jack Clifford did take some tarnish off the scoreboard for Kerry, but their opponents would secure the title with two quickfire goals that saw Alan O’Connell smashing to the net before Hayes, who finished with 2-3, hammered in his second.

The victory advances Cork to the All-Ireland quarter-finals against Derry on Saturday week, while Kerry meet newly crowned Ulster champions Tyrone for a place in the All-Ireland semis.
