Dublin bench not as strong as it was - Fitzmaurice

Eamonn Fitzmaurice reckons question marks remain over the strength Dublin’s bench in comparison to recent past years.

Yesterday saw the Dubs claim an 11th Leinster SFC title in-a-row after defeating Kildare by eight points at Croke Park.

Speaking after the game, manager Dessie Farrell admitted that his team have improvements to make against Mayo in next Saturday week’s All-Ireland SFC semi-final.

Looking at chinks in the capital men’s armour, Fitzmaurice cited their bench as a possible weakness.

"The one question I’d have about them [Dublin] is in terms of their bench," the 2014 All-Ireland winning manager said on The Sunday Game.

"You see the comparison from 2017, to 2018 to 2021 and the type of players that are coming in.

"The last time they played Kildare in a Leinster final, the bench delivered seven points from play for them. This year, they got one, through Ryan Basquel.

"That’s possibly one area they aren’t as strong in as they were, but their work rate and the way they are tackling proves they are not ready to give it up just yet."
