Carrick Hurling retained the Leitrim SHC silverware but they were pushed all the way by a battling Cluanin Iomaint at Pairc Sean MacDiarmada.

Extra-time was required to separate the sides and the Cathal McCrann captained Carrick eventually prevailed on a scoreline of 1-20 to 0-21.

Stephen Goldrick netted the game’s only goal two minutes into the second period of extra-time and that proved to be the decisive score at the final whistle.

The regulation 60 minutes ended with the teams deadlocked on 0-16 apiece.

Gavin O’Hagan dashed Cluanin Iomaint’s dreams with an equalising free in the third minute of added on time.

The holders made the most of their second bite at the cherry with Goldrick making amends for missing a penalty when firing home the all-important goal.

Afterwards, Leitrim hurling board chairman Martin Cunniffe presented the Stephen Dorrigan Cup to victorious captain McGrann while James Glancy was honoured with the ‘man-of-the-match’ accolade.
