Ruane blow for Mayo

Mayo will be without Matthew Ruane for Saturday week’s All-Ireland SFC Round 2 qualifier against Down after the midfielder suffered a broken collarbone in training.

The injury occurred during an A vs B match in MacHale Park, Castlebar last night and it means that the rising Breaffy star could also potentially miss the third round qualifiers should the National League champions overcome the Mourne men in Newry next weekend.

It’s a fresh blow to manager James Horan, who recently welcomed back star forward Cillian O’Connor to action in a challenge match against Clare last weekend while the returns of Seamus O'Shea and Donal Vaughan could give him a few options to replace Ruane around the centre.
