Aidan O’Mahony thinks Kerry could torpedo Dublin’s drive for five.
The Dubs are odds-on favourites to collect an unprecedented fifth successive All-Ireland SFC title this summer, but former Kerry defender O’Mahony reckons the Kingdom could deny Jim Gavin’s men:
“I genuinely think they can. Hopefully the media will keep building Dublin up every week and build them up for a fall,” he comments in his capacity as a Paddy Power GAA ambassador.
“They are the team to beat but I definitely think Kerry can catch them, once we get ourselves right at the back and we need to give youth its fling as well. A lot of these lads that have come through this year for Kerry haven’t been beaten by Dublin. They’ve lost a league final to Mayo, which might be a good thing as well. No baggage — and at the same time the pressure is on Dublin.
“You are going for five in a row and that has to creep in somewhere. Every game now will be ‘one step closer, one step closer’. They can be caught, teams have to believe. This year, the pressure is on them, they have to perform in every game, all it takes is for one of the other teams to go above themselves.”
