Donegal hope to have Patrick McBrearty back on board in time for this summer’s championship.

The Kilcar clubman sustained a cruciate ligament injury during last year’s Ulster SFC final win over Fermanagh and was a massive loss to his county for the inaugural Super 8s. But manager Declan Bonner has confirmed that his rehab is going to plan, although the national football league will come too soon for him.

Kieran Gillespie, meanwhile, is set to miss the entire 2019 campaign after the Gweedore defender ruptured his ACL during the Ulster Club SFC quarter-final against Cargin. Eoin McHugh is also currently sidelined after tearing his hamstring against Down on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Michael Murphy will miss the first half of the league after undergoing knee surgery last week, but Ryan McHugh could return for tomorrow’s McKenna Cup meeting with Cavan at Ballybofey, having been ruled out for four months by concussion.

Frank McGlynn, Paddy McGrath, Leo McLoone and Eoghan ‘Ban’ Gallagher will also come back into the reckoning for the start of the league.
