Tipperary's Conor Bowe and David Moran of Kerry after the game

The stakes were high as there was no safety net for the losers of today's four senior championship encounters.

The Munster SFC final line-up was confirmed when Limerick hosted Cork and holders Tipperary entertained Kerry, while Cavan opened their defence of the Ulster SFC against Tyrone in Omagh.

Meanwhile, for the first time this summer, knockout hurling was on the menu, Parnell Park providing the setting for the preliminary-round Qualifier clash of Antrim and Laois. The winners advanced to the first round proper and the losers were relegated to next year's Joe McDonagh Cup.
