Penrith Gaels Sydney club notes

05 June 2012

Penrith ladies team ended their league campaign
It was a case of top versus bottom when Penrith senior mens team took on Sydneys newest team Bondi Gaels at Monarch fields on Sunday. Penrith kept up their winning ways with a 2 10 to 4 points win. In wet and windy conditions Penrith took the lead early on with a point from wing back Declan Flannagan. Further points followed from Niall O' Kane (4), Mark Healy before O'Kane was awarded a penalty after being hauled down in the square by the Bondi Gaels goalkeeper. O'Kane dually slotted the ball in the back of the net to leave the score 1 06 to a point at half time. Penrith started the second half where the finished the first with a point from O'Kane. Bondi gaels hit 3 unanswered points before substitute Brian McPeake found the net for Penrith. Points from Austin Neven, McPeake and O'Kane sealed the victory. The win see's us finish top of the league with 5 wins from 5 games and leaves us in a good position going into the semi finals in 2 weeeks time where we will face Cormac MacAnallens.

Our ladies team ended their league campaign with a loss against Michael Cusacks. A much understrength team put up a brave fight and led for most of the first half before Cusacks took control and won the game. Best for Penrith were Michelle Bergin, Helen McCardle and Amanda Creighton. Unfortunately the loss leaves us out of contention for the knock out stages of the league so instead our attention will focus to the championship in a few weeks time.
