FL Div 3: All square in extremely difficult conditions

February 28, 2017

Cian Rennicks - St Ultans

Kilmainham 0-8 St Ultans 1-5

Kilmainham and St Ultans shared the points following a hard fought battle in extremely difficult conditions.

With the aid of a strong wind in the 1st half Kilmainham kicked 5 points from play before St Ultans managed their first shot at goal which was a wide by Martin Dolan on 24mins, another Kilmainham point from play on 27 mins put them 6 up and in a commanding position however they were rocked back in their heels when a minute before the interval a swift passing move from St Ultans resulted in a goal by Mark Allen.

Storm Ewan passed by during half time and with the pitch saturated with lying water it made the 2nd half very difficult for both sides, with the wind not as strong it was Kilmainham who opened the scoring with a free by Freddie Newman, Ronan Breslin replied for Ultans.

Conor Smyth, Barry Brady and Cian Rennicks were all introduced from the bench and it yielded quick dividends as 3 points in as many minutes left the minimum in it with 10 mins to play.

A long range point from Martin Dolan with 5mins to go tied the match which proved to be the last score.

Both teams have to be commended for a great effort and all in Kilmainham would have said that a draw was the fairest outcome on a day not suited for football.
