Cian McFadden gains possession for St Michaels against Blackhall Gaels

St. Michaels 6-14, Blackhall Gaels 5-07

St. Michaels came out on top in this U-13 FL encounter in glorious conditions in Carlanstown on Saturday evening last.

After a highly entertaining opening half the visitors led by two points at the break. Blackhall Gaels opened the scoring with a point after just 30 seconds however top scorer of the match Cian McFadden opened the scoring for the home side a minute later which was quickly followed by a point from Kuba Bidinski. Blackhall Gaels replied with three unanswered points to go two in front after 14 minutes but their lead was short lived as up popped Aaron Gaffney for St. Michaels opening goal.

This was followed by three points on the run from McFadden but the visitors finished the half the stronger with 2 goals in a three minute spell. Brian O'Reilly tapped over St. Michaels final score of the half to reduce the deficit to 1-6 to 2-5 at the break. A point apiece from Cian McFadden (free) and Kuba Bidinski in the opening two minutes of the second half levelled the match but Blackhall Gaels replied immediately with their third major of the game to go back in front. For the next ten minutes St. Michaels held control of the game registering 3-4 without reply with McFadden, Patrick Fitzsimons and Brian O'Reilly all getting on the scoresheet. St. Michaels then lost their 'keeper Rhys Daly to a black card and the visitors grabbed the initiative adding 2-2 on the trot but it was all too little too late as Brian O'Reilly finished out the scoring adding 1-2 to his tally for what was a well earned victory. Along with the scorers others to show up well for St. Michaels were Jack Moriarty, Eoghan Finnegan, James McDonnell, Rhys Daly, Darragh & Aaron Dolan.
