October 21, 2016

Kilbride's Joseph Donnelly will pose big problems for the Michaels/Nobber defence

The first of this years LMFM sponsored minor football championships is down for decision on Saturday when Kilbride and Nobber /St Michaels lock horns at 2pm in Pairc Tailteann as curtain raiser to the replay of the Intermediate Final.

Both sides caused minor upsets when winning their semi finals against more fancied opposition. The combination side racked up an impressive 2-20 when defeating Slane by 5 points in Castletown. The Kilbride lads had to fight hard to earn a two point winning margin in overcoming Gael Colmcille in their semi final at Dunganny.

After struggling to field a team as separate clubs in the earlier minor and u-16 leagues, Nobber and St Michaels joined forces for the Summer league and minor championship and results have shown the success of such a move. They won the u16 summer league and are now one step away from championship glory. Kilbride, meantime are reaping the benefits of all the hard work put into their juvenile section a number of years ago. They have been consistant challengers at all levels and have moved steadily through the grades to be contesting division 2 and 3 competitions. At the current rate . it may not be long before  Kilbride are once again a force at adult level.

This has the makings to be an exciting and close battle between two excellent footballing teams and an appropriate curtain raiser to the adult replay. On the basis that "two is better than one", the nod goes to Nobber/St Michaels to claim the Dara Maxwell Cup on Saturday
