Junior A Championship Naas 3-18 Kilcullen 2-8
Naas recorded their second win of this year's Junior A Championship when they had too much firepower for Kilcullen on Saturday. Naas opened brightly with a brace of points from Shannon Doheny which were followed by another brace from Aine Cummins. Shannon Doheny was back on the score sheet when she gathered a ball on the wing and cut inside before blasting to the net. Orlaith White then got in on the act with two of her own which were separated by Kilcullen opening score. Shannon Doheny completed a blistering opening quarter when she got on the end of a long ball from Aoife Trant to finish to the net. Naas kept the pressure up as Kilcullen struggled to get out of their half, Mairead Murphy was next to ass her name to the score sheet when she won a ball on the fifty and finished with a point. On the restart Rachael Corrigan intercepted the kick out and raised another point. Shannon Doheny was back on the score sheet with another point. Kilcullen then got a foothold for the next five minutes but some good defending from Ashlings, Breslin and Gralton, kept Kilcullen forwards working for their rewards. Sinead Maher was rewarded for her hard work when her shot on the run deceived Aoife Hederman to raise the first goal for Kilcullen. Naas came back up the field and ended the half with another two points from Caroline Hill and Aine Cummins. The second half started as the first when Aoife Trant broke the ball to Rarchel Corrigan who found Roisin Mellet who passed to Aine Cummins who added the point. Kilcullen had the breeze behind them and added a point of their own. Orlaith White then capped a good night with a fine point from close range after good work from Leanne O'Rourke. Kilcullen then hit a purple patch where they added three points in five minutes as Naas made some changes to their team. Naas then responded with another brace of points from the hard working Shannon Doheny. Aoife Trant was moved to full forward and in a flash was in on goal when pulled down in the square. Caroline Hill struck the resulting penalty to the back of the net and she was on hand to add another point from a free to secure the game for the home team. Kilcullen to their credit never gave up and some good hand passing resulted in another goal and quickly added a point. Naas though were not to be undone and fittingly it was Shannon Doheny who finished the nights scoring with yet another brace of points.
