Tipperary Ladies Gaelic Football Notes
13 August 2012
All-Ireland Intermediate Championship.
Cavan "Came" they "Saw" and they "Conquered". This is how this All-Ireland round 3 Championship game played out in Templemore on Saturday last Aug 11th at the immaculately prepared J.K Brackens G.A.A clubs ground. Straight from the throw in Cavan were on top all over the field and at no period during the game did Tipperary threaten Cavan's superiority. Helen Kennedy in goal could not be faulted for the three goals that went past her.Galtee Rovers Claire Carroll at full back was Tipperary's most consistence player even though she was marking Cavan's top scorer Ashling Doonan an All Star nominee in 2011. The supply of ball to Doonan from Cavan's half backs centre field and half forwards was excellent, fast, direct and low a defenders nightmare. To Claire's credit she stood her ground well but received very little help from the rest of the Tipperary backs. Catriona Walsh with ball in hand from corner back made many defence splitting runs through the Cavan mid field area, but her speed of movement and thought could not be matched by Tipperary's forwards. Edit Carroll did score 2 well taken points from Catrionas probing runs, in the 14 and 24 minutes of the first half. As always Jennifer Grant was trying her upmost to stem the Cavan onslatue and contributed 2 points to our first half tally. Half time score Tipperary 0-4 to Cavan's 2-7. The small Tipperary support expected a different Tipperary team to appear for the second half after the pep talk at half time but there was no improvement and it was Cavan that kept setting the pace of the
game. A point from Shauna Ryan opened Tipperary's account for the second half this was followed by two points from Edit Carroll and one from Siobhan Condon before Edel Hanley scored two frees. Tipperary's final score was well struck penalty from Jennifer Grant after Edel Hanley was pulled down in the small square. Tipperary could not pully back Cavan's first half lead and with Cavan helping themselves to 1-5 in the second half the final score was Cavan 3-12 Tipperary 1-10. Tipperary's management will have been disappointed with our team's performance. However they will have the chance to redeem them self's next weekend against Roscommon. Tipperary will play Roscommon in the final round of the championship in Knockcrockry on Saturday the 18th at 7pm. Tipperary must win to have any hope of staying in the championship race. Sligo are at home against Cavan and must win to stay in contention. A win for Cavan will see them go through to an All-Ireland Quarter final. If Cavan and Sligo play a draw Tipperary will lose out. Our thanks to all who helped out last week end in Templemore. To Ronan Loughnane the grounds man for all his help. To Fearghal for doing the gate. The catering staff were brilliant on the day and feed a multitude. Thanks to Olive, Ashling, Elaine, Kay, Celia and Patricia..

Under 16 Semi final
Tipperary travelled to Crettyard on the Laois/ Carlow border for this All-Ireland semi-final against Kildare. The early exchanges were even with both teams getting points on the board Tipperary's coming from an Ashling Mc Carthy free and one from play a Roisin Howard fisted point and a point from play by Megan Bourke. Tipperary suffered a major blow when Dara Walsh went off with a knee injury to be replaced by Maria Curley who proved to be a worthy replacement. On 20 min Sara Ryan was fouled in the square and Ashling Mc Carthy made no mistake from the penalty spot. After a goal mouth melee Eimer Bartley toe pocked the ball into the Kildare net. Tipperary at this stage were in complete control of the game and Sara Ryan pointed to be followed by a very clever goal from Sara Everard who was causing all sorts of problems for the Kildare defence.Eimer Bartley and Ashling Mc Carthy were on target from play with two more points thanks to great work from Marie Kinnane who was having an outstanding game at wing back. The final score of the half fell to Ashling Mc Carthy with a pointed free. Half time score Tipperary 3-8 Kildare 0-5. Laura Dillon was first to score for Tipperary in the second half with a point which was followed by points from Roisin Howard and Sara Ryan. Kildare were putting fierce pressure on the Tipperary defence which resulted in a goal and a few points from play before they were awarded a penalty which was converted. However Tipperary responded well and finished off the game with points from Maria Curley and Roisin Howard. Final score Tipperary 3-13 to Kildare's 2-9. Cavan will be Tipperary's opponents in the nal which will be played on Saturday 25th Aug at a venue to be decided.
