Ladies boss praises character

12 July 2012
Pat Costello says character saw Sligo ladies past Roscommon.

The Yeats girls had to see off a barnstorming second-half revival from the Rossies in Sunday's Connacht intermediate ladies decider at McHale Park to prevail by 1-14 to 2-9.

Their manager told The Sligo Champion: "It is very hard to hold a big lead like that coming into the second half and in a way we just got out of jail, but I have to praise the character of the players.

"They dug deep to get us over the line.

"We did experience a lot of trouble getting long ball in. We knew Roscommon would die for it and their pride would carry them all the way. We are just lucky to be out of jail.

"It was a bit of character shown by the older players, who dug deep, that at the finish got us over the line."
