Kennelly assisting as AFL eyes more GAA talent

14 February 2012

AFL scouts will be on the hunt for more young GAA talent tomorrow (Wednesday).

The ongoing Aussie Rules recruitment drive gathers pace with some of the GAA's brightest young footballing talents due to attend a skills trial at the National Basketball Arena in Tallaght.

The event is being hosted by AFL ambassador Tadhg Kennelly and Ben McCormack, general manager of the AFL in Europe.

A crop of 17- to 19-year-old gaelic footballers will attend in the hope of securing professional contracts if they can prove themselves as viable Oz Rules prospects. They will be assessed on their control and kicking of an oval ball as well as undergoing speed and agility testing.

The camp will also track the progress of players who attended a similar trial in Limerick last October, including Dublin dual star Ciaran Kilkenny.

Scouts from leading AFL clubs are also expected to attend.
